WHAT IS MASSAGE THERAPY GOOD FOR?

Although my practice today consists mostly of CranioSacral Therapy and Structural Integration techniques, I will sometimes recommend “traditional massage therapy”.

Massage dates back thousands of years to early eastern cultures as an original form of health care. Massage Therapy is the manual manipulation of muscles and soft tissues of the body to promote wellness by preventing and alleviating spasm, pain, discomfort and stress.

By now most people have heard of massage and understand its benefits. There is still the misconception that it is simply a luxury, but it can be much more than that.

Massage is an incredible health aid and pain management tool. It can facilitate the body’s natural healing process by increasing the flow of lymph and blood to all major organ systems. it promotes realignment of soft tissue structures. It encourages the nervous system to rest and relax, helping the body to unwind.

Overall massage helps people feel better in their bodies.

The brain is not the only area of the body that holds and stores memories. The nervous system and the muscles hold and retain previous injuries, accidents, physical and emotional traumas. Massage can help ease tension, free repressed body memories, and decrease emotional stress.  Massage provides relaxation of the Central Nervous System and sends us into rest and digest mode of our Parasympathetic Nervous System.

Massage helps in Pain management and relief, improves circulation, increases flexibility, reduces inflammation, remodels and reduce scar tissue adhesions, reduce stress and anxiety, and also helps regulate and restore sleep.  

Massage Therapy helps accelerate healing acute injuries, enhance mood, encourage body awareness, helps with postural imbalances to fully align the body correctly, improves skin, supports immune system, and increases mental clarity and awareness.

Swedish and Relaxation

The use of long massage strokes to increase circulation and encourage relaxation. Moderate to deep stretching is applied to areas that are tight while using  gentle strokes to relax the nervous system. This massage is also great for relieving stress, improving skin health, and increasing lymphatic flow.  Swedish massage is light to medium pressure.

 Deep Tissue/ Connective Tissue and Trigger Point/ Neuromuscular Therapy

Deep Tissue/Connective Tissue massage aims to release myofascial (connective tissue) restrictions. It is  slow, deep work that focuses on lengthening and spreading the muscles so individual fibers can realign correctly. Neuromuscular Therapy works directly on adhesions “knots” or  trigger points. Trigger points are tender areas in the muscle tissue that may cause pain patterns and referred sensations when contacted.  The application of deep, specific pressure works by interrupting the pain/spasm cycle , allowing the muscle to unwind and relax. Together these therapies can increase range of motion, decrease pain, and give relief from chronic musculoskeletal habits.  This massage is medium to deep (feels bad but good) in it’s pressure.  Deep breathing and Stretching help during this massage to tender and deeper body areas.

Integrative Massage

Is a combination of Swedish Massage , Connective (Deep) Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy/Trigger point, Energy Therapies as well as CraninoSacral Therapy and Polarity Therapy. This is a unique tailored session designed to fit each individuals needs at that time. This is also  great for Pregnancy Massage, Sports Massage and Medical Massage.  This massage allows for a full body, mind, and spirit realignment. 

PRENATAL MASSAGE, YOGA, AND STRETCHING

Each Prenatal session is 90 minutes.  Treatments re customized to your individual needs at that time.  Each session is a blend of Craniosacral Therapy, multiple massage modalities, private yoga, stretching, and breath work instruction.  We customize a take home essential oil blend and yoga “cheat sheet” for the day of your baby’s arrival!

Hot Stones

This massage uses smooth flat heated stones . They are applied to specific points on the body and or glided over muscles to  help release tight bound muscle tissue.  The stones are great during the colder months when our bodies are not holding enough heat.  They are also great for use on Trigger Points, allowing the muscles to loosen a little on their own with the heat, and then the deep pressure on the tender point is more tolerable for the client.
